St. Louis Young Democrats Executive Board Calls for Investigation into Gov. Eric Greitens

ST. LOUIS - The Executive Board of the St. Louis Young Democrats is calling for an investigation into the alleged misconduct by Gov. Eric Greitens.

After a news story broke last night, Gov. Greitens admitted to having had an affair with a woman prior to serving as governor of the State of Missouri. That fact by itself is not a concern to the St. Louis Young Democrats. The St. Louis Young Democrats have no interest in policing behavior between consenting adults. The important issue is one of consent. In the news story, it was alleged that Gov. Greitens tied her up, blindfolded her, and took her photo, threatening to post it “everywhere” if she disclosed his behavior.

This is blackmail. Gov. Greitens allegedly threatened this woman with revenge porn. At the moment, it is unclear whether the woman consented to being tied up and blindfolded; if she did not consent, that is assault. This is the latest instance of what has become a pattern of bullying and coercive behavior by the governor — and it must be investigated.

We are appalled and disgusted. Anyone who engages in such behavior violates the public trust. Missourians deserve better than this. Therefore, the Executive Board of the St. Louis Young Democrats is calling for an independent investigation into these alleged crimes. If an investigation reveals that the Gov. Greitens did indeed commit these heinous acts, he should resign.
